CFA Institute Research Challenge is an annual global educational initiative promoting the best practices in equity research among the next generation of analysts through hands-on mentoring and intensive training in company analysis and presentation skills. Local CFA Institute member societies host and launch local competitions involving teams of three to five business and finance students from participating colleges or universities. The local winning teams advance to the respective regional finals held in APAC (Asia Pacific), EMEA (Europe, Middle East & Africa), Americas and New York regions and then compete for the global crown in the global finals. IAIP concluded the India finals of Research Challenge in Mumbai on January 31st 2013. Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai and Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Delhi emerged as winners to represent India in the 2013 Asia Pacific regional finals of the competition. The event was followed by the panel discussion on the investment outlook for India.
It should be noted that India has the largest number of teams and students participating in this challenge – 46 business schools and more than 220 students. Just a few years ago in 2008 the number stood at 9 schools. India also has the highest number of society members volunteering as judges, mentors, graders, coordinators. The table below gives name of subject companies and winners of each zone as well as the finals.

The five teams, which made it to the finals after the equally tough regional rounds, gave brilliant presentation of the investment thesis on the respective companies and responded well to the questions raised by the distinguished panel of judges. Bloomberg, Bloomberg TV, Corporate Bridge, NSE India and yourmoneysite.com were the sponsors of the event. The two winning teams will represent India at the APAC finals in Hong Kong on February 23rd, 2013.
